Chemophobia to the Extreme
An example of people's fear of 'chemicals' was seen on April Fools' Day this year in Florida. Two radio morning-show hosts are facing backlash and possible felony charges after telling their listeners 'dihydrogen monoxide' was coming out of their taps. As people with knowledge of chemistry know, dihydrogen monoxide is water. This extreme example goes to show just how afraid some people are of chemicals - not realizing that they are all around us (as can be seen in the earlier post "Everything is a Chemical"). The listeners of this radio show were so afraid of the 'chemical' coming out of their taps that many reports were called in to the county utilities that the water was not safe to use. The article can be read here.
